Why stair gates?
A stairgate can absolutely not be missed in a house with curious and enterprising children. Before you know it your baby will crawl around towards the stairs and other unsafe places. A fall from the stairs is therefore one of the most serious accidents that can happen to your little one. Stair gates prevent your child from ever ending up in this situation. A stair gate ensures that the way to the stairs is closed for your child. You place it both at the top of the stairs and at the bottom of the stairs. At the top it ensures that your little one cannot fall down and at the bottom it prevents your child from climbing up and possibly falling.
Different types of stair gates
Stair gates are available in different types:
- bar gate
- foldable gate
- retractable gate
The most common baby gate is a stair gate with bars. They are made of wood, metal or plastic. With a bar gate you have to make sure that the space between the bars is not so large that a child can squeeze his hip or head through it. The same applies to the space between the outer bars and the wall or stair post. The benefit of a folding gate is that you can slide it together like a harmonica. Moreover, you can’t see through a gate like that. Handy if you have enterprising and curious children. In addition, retractable gates are very popular, because they can be adjusted flexibly and take up little space when completely rolled up.
Do I need an extension?
It is possible that a stair gate is just not wide enough for your stairwell. No need to panic, because at Baby Plus there is a wide range of extension pieces available. You easily extend your baby gate to the desired width. Measure the opening where the gate is to be fitted to ensure that you need an extension. Refer to the manual of the stair gate to identify which extension is required.
